Mass Intentions

The importance of Mass intentions

It is a praiseworthy practice for the faithful to entrust Mass intentions
to their priests. The Church professes that the Holy Mass is the perpetual
Sacrifice of Christ, offered to God the Father for the salvation of mankind.

When the Mass is offered for a particular intention, the Sacrifice is
presented to God in thanksgiving, in time of need, or for the repose of the
soul of someone who has died. God the Father is implored to apply the fruits
of Christ’s Sacrifice in a special way to this intention. This is one of the
most powerful means by which we can assist the holy souls in purgatory and
shorten their time of purification, and it is also a great help for our loved
ones who are living — in their needs, their sorrows or their joys.

Rules concerning Mass intentions

On Sundays and holy days of obligation a priest (pastor) is bound to offer
the Holy Mass for the people entrusted to his care (Missa pro populo).
Personal intentions may not be added to this Mass. On other days, one
intention may be accepted for each Holy Mass that is offered.

Stipend

A financial offering (stipendium) is requested as the real sacrifice
of the person who submits the intention. This offering contributes to the
support and livelihood of the priest who celebrates the Mass.

Submitting intentions

Mass intentions may be submitted only in writing, preferably in a
sealed envelope clearly stating the name of the person for whom the intention
is requested, your relationship to that person, and any preferred date.
Please hand this envelope personally to the pastor whenever possible.
Submitting intentions in writing by e-mail is also possible:
fssp.nl@gmail.com.
Suggested stipend: €12 per Holy Mass; the offering should never be an obstacle.

Payment

Please transfer your offering to

in the name of Stichting Sint-Petrusbroederschap Nederland,
stating your intention(s) and the number of Masses.
